Looking back on the fourth week of the Early Bird Challenge

Monday August 20
My son woke me up at 4:56 when he started to cry. After I put him back in his bed I went down to make some coffee. Fresh start of the week. My muscles are sore from the garden work this weekend.

Tuesday August 21
Up at 5:00 again. Three full weeks of rising early already. I wonder if the stories about evening people and night owls are myths, maybe your biological rhythm is simple a resonance of your choices of going to bed and waking up. I used to believe firmly in these biological rhythms, but now I think they provided me with a reason not to make a choice. “I can’t change, I’m just built this way…”. Guess what, I’m not :)

Wednesday August 22
Did it again. It feels so easy now that it truly feels like a habit change. Going to bed early is no problem anymore, I simply feel tired around 23:00 and go to bed. I like the rhythm I’m in now, so I’ll probably adjust my end-goal from 4:30 to 5:00 and stick with my current rhythm.

Thursday August 23
Woke up 10 minutes early. Not by myself, but my son started to cry. Why does he do this at 5:00 these days? I would’ve preferred staying in bed, but since I’m up to comfort him, I stay up anyway. One of the tips on rising early is putting the alarm clock far from your bed, now my son acts as an alarm clock sometimes, but it sure works. Once you’re out, just stay out.

Friday August 24
Today I was awake at 5:00, but I stayed in bed until 5:25. This was really the first time since I started this challenge, that I didn’t make it out of bed in time. Not too bad, but I shouldn’t let it slip.

Saturday August 25
Friday I had an intense workshop all day, so I went to bed fairly early. Woke up easy at 5:00. Lots of work to do in and around the house today.

Sunday August 26
This morning I slept in, until 7:15. Sleeping in until 7:15…imagine that two months ago :P The alarm clock went off at 5:00 and woke me up, but every muscle in my body screamed “We need more sleep” and I listened. Saturday I did a lot of heavy garden work and I was totally exhausted physically. This was the first day I really shifted my waking time to very late, so that’s not so bad after all.
