Monday August 13
The first day of rising at 5:00. Now it’s really dark outside when I wake up. I wonder how I’ll experience the wintertime.
Tuesday August 14
I went to bed too late last night, did not get 6 hours of sleep. Yet waking up was fairly easy, I think this is getting a routine. Did not feel like writing a blog post today, have a very busy day of work ahead of me.
Wednesday August 15
Another night too late in bed on Tuesday, had to do a lot of work for my job at home. When the alarm went off, I didn’t really want to get out of bed, but did it anyway. The morning started with more job-related work. No time for writing blog posts. Tonight early to bed.
Thursday August 16
Had a long night sleep, 22:00 to 5:00. Got up refreshed, nice cup of coffee and catching up with the blogging world. But my son decided to wake up at 5:45. No personal time this morning.
Friday August 17
Rising at 5:00 was easy today. Yet I’m contemplating to extend the 5:00 waking time to next week as well. This week it was quite challenging to get to bed on time, and shifting the waking time to 4:30 might make that problem worse. I’ll decide Sunday.
Saturday August 18
Managed to make it today as well. I felt like sleeping in, since the bed was nice and warm, and it’s still dark outside, and it’s a Saturday and fifty other reasons I came up with in bed. I almost succeeded in keeping me in bed, but I visualized myself with a mug full of coffee checking my blogs stats and responding to all the new comments. That worked! I got out of bed, made the coffee, checked the stats, but no comments…
Sunday August 19
I really felt like sleeping in again. Went to bed early enough, but I worked in the garden yesterday moving around earth and big rocks so I was pretty tired. But once I was awake I decided to get out. I am sticking at 5:00 for next week as well. 4:30 might be a step too far all together.

Well done, Lodewijk! I really encourage you to keep it up, because – as you’ve already noticed – these extra, early hours can be very useful. Don’t make the (easy) mistake to start working more though. Use it for relaxation, excercise, personal reflection and blogging of course
I’m not extremely strict about it but I tend to get up between 05:00 and 06:00 every day, including the weekend. At one point it has become a habit, a rhythm and I can’t even force myself to sleep in anymore, nor would I want to!

BTW, I like the current Google Ads next to this post right now: “Wake up dry every morning”… yep, I manage to do that!

Thanks gtdfrk. The early hours are very useful indeed, more so than I initially expected. I usually use the hours for blogging, but I intend to take on exercising again and those would fit perfectly in there. Well that is if my son doesn’t decide to rise early as well
And I’m glad you can
I’m keeping it dry too, my son is another story…but he’s only 10 months old
