How to be an Original

Review week 49; goals, blog and GTD

On Sundays I’m looking back on the past week. How did I perform towards my goals? How did my blog do? And how am I keeping up with my Getting Things Done system and Zen to Done habits?

Blog performance

I changed the color scheme of my blog a little, it’s brighter now and the black and green have been replaced by icy shades of blue. I think it’s easier on the eyes and the lighter colors are more uplifting than the black. I was triggered to look into the color scheme by Justin Lilly who gave me a lot of feedback out of the blue. Thanks Justin!

The number of visitors dropped considerably, but that was as expected. StumbleUpon can give a huge rush of traffic, but it dries up again pretty fast too. Although they will continue to send traffic for many more months for popular articles.

Subscriber numbers (I renamed you all Originals!) broke the 500 barrier for the first time! The weekly average hasn’t yet, but it’s a nice increase. Not 2500 yet, but I’m very glad that there are so many of you already joining in.

Progress towards goals

This week I started a series on Goal Setting Mistakes I have made. I published three parts already, and the fourth part was planned for yesterday. However when we came home last Friday we found that our house had been broken into! There was damage to a door and they took some bags from the house. In the bags was stuff from my work and from my wife’s work. Most of it is useless and worthless, but it’ll sure take a chunk of time to rebuild some of those files.

My laptop and PDA were in the bag too. My laptop got stolen 4 weeks ago too, when someone stole it from my car (in a locked-down, camera-guarded parking building). Two times in less than a month! This really pisses me off! People should leave other people’s stuff alone!

Yesterday we replaced the door and locks. This was quite some work, and my father canceled an appointment to help me out. That was really nice of him, and I’m deeply grateful. I couldn’t have done it by myself. There’s more work to be done today, so after this, I’ll be working on the door again.

Anyway, the fourth article was almost finished, so I’ll publish it tomorrow. That also concludes the series. Since my goals will be different after the series, I’m skipping the review this week. Next week it’ll be back, completely updated.

Zen to Done / Getting Things Done - weekly review

I no longer have a PDA since yesterday, so I’ll have to find another solution for my GTD system. I’m not sure I’m buying a PDA again…

  1. Hello Lodewijk,
Great life story, your bio was a hoot. I’m finding more people globally aligned with your purpose… spreading the word on the nuances of successful people who have not lost their moral shirt to the conventional ways of the world. And my condolences on the computer. Good luck on your quest.

  2. well, I feel sorry for the person who has to replace the laptop. Again ;-)

  3. Tom » Yeah, me too! This sucks big time…

  4. Judy Martin » “your bio was a hoot” Ehm? I’m not a native speaker and the dictionary was kind of contradicting itself in getting a translation for hoot. What does this mean? But I guess I can say Thanks!
